BEL Announces Scheduled Power Interruptions Due to Temporary Generation Shortages and Curtailment from CFE

BEL Announces Scheduled Power Interruptions Due to Temporary Generation Shortages and Curtailment from CFE

Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) informs our Customers that we are implementing scheduled power interruptions in various service areas throughout the country, between 9:30 p.m. to 12:00 midnight on Monday, May 6, 2024. Interruptions to Customers could last between 2 to 3 hours in any given area.

Temporary in-country generation shortages and curtailment from Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) have resulted in insufficient energy supply to meet the growing demand for consumption.

Starting at 9:30 p.m., this evening, load shedding will become necessary for various sections of the country to effectively manage the availability of energy supply. Our tentative load shedding schedule is based on energy demand projections, which can change quickly as energy demand fluctuates throughout the day, peaking at about 125 MW during peak demand hours.

Load shedding is a controlled process of temporarily reducing electricity consumption across different areas to ensure the stability and continuous operation of the national electricity grid.
