Interconnection Project
Caye Caulker and San Pedro Interconnection
Seventh Power Project

Caye Caulker's electricity load demand is increasing significantly. The maximum load demand is projected to be at 8 MW by 2040, more than double the amount experienced in 2024. This is driven by growth in settlement size and increased tourism activities.

The island is currently isolated from the main national electricity grid and supplied with power using diesel power generation. To meet future demand, Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) aims to connect Caye Caulker to the national grid via submarine cable to San Pedro Ambergris Caye. This will improve existing system reliability, ensuring continuity of supply and reducing system losses.
