A recipient of the Chevening scholarship in 2000, Janelle Chanona holds a Master's Degree with distinction in Investigative Journalism from Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, England. Upon her return to Belize, Janelle continued her work as a journalist, anchor and editor with a national broadcast company before establishing her own production firm in June 2008. Her commitment to sustainable development and human interest issues earned her several international awards and recognition throughout her journalism and broadcast production career. In January 2014, Janelle shifted gears from journalism to advocacy. Since then, she has advocated for national policies that protect natural resources and more importantly, the people who depend on them as the leader of Oceana in Belize. Whenever she can, Janelle and her trusty trident can be found lionfish hunting along the Belize Barrier Reef.
